SAINTS COME BACK TO TIE

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA:  The Limestone men’s soccer team came back from a 3-1 deficit to tie Emmanuel College 3-3.

The Saints dominated play throughout the game, out shooting Emmanuel 18-6, and earning 7 corner kicks. Down 2-0, Limestone’s David Ash got the Saints on the board in the 30th minute with his 3rd goal of the season bringing his point total for the year to 9.  Emmanuel slid their third goal between the posts with less than a minute remaining in the first half.

After falling behind 3-1, the Saints played an outstanding second half pouring on the pressure to finish the game with a tie.  A great hustle by Timmy Costanzo created a penalty kick situation for Limestone with 20 minutes left in regulation.  Tom Beattie netted the Saints’ second goal on that penalty kick.    Beattie then earned a free kick from 35 yards out, putting the ball across the line to tie the game at 3 with just one minute remaining in regulation.  Beattie now leads the Saints with 5 goals and 10 points.  Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough daylight for an overtime period, and Limestone didn’t have a chance to net one more for the win.

“It was a team effort today,” said Head Coach Eric Alsop.  “I was pleased to see the whole team contribute to a great come back.”

Nick Gumpert stepped up and played goal for the Saints recording 3 saves.  Limestone is now 2-7-3 overall.

The Saints will return to Gaffney, SC on Saturday, October 15th to face conference opponent Pfeiffer University at 3:00 p.m.
