TROJANS TOP SAINTS, 2-0

GAFFNEY, SC:  The Limestone men’s soccer team took on the defending CVAC Champions, Mount Olive College.  The Trojans topped the Saints 2-0.

It was a tough and physical game with each team matching each other’s shots in the first half, 7 a piece.  Three yellow cards were given, 2 to Limestone, in the first 45 minutes and the score remained locked at 0.

In the second half, both Limestone and Mount Olive came out ready to play.  Trojan Bradley Carroll found the back of the net in the 57th minute, assisted by Adam Caston and Chris Varela.  Five minutes later, the Trojans added another goal, unfortunately off of a Limestone defender.

Head Coach Eric Alsop was pleased with his team’s efforts to keep up with the defending CVAC Champions.  “It was a hard fought contest.  We are still battling injuries and our young players are still learning to play together as a team, but it was a good game.  Mount Olive is a great team and a tough competitor.”

Alsop also praised his defense, and goalkeeper Ryan Robinson, who had another outstanding game for the Saints with 6 saves.

Limestone’s next contest will be against Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, NC.  That conference game will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20.
