LANDER EDGES LIMESTONE, 1-0

GREENWOOD, SC:  The Limestone College men’s soccer team faced a very strong Lander University team on Saturday.  Unfortunately, the Bearcats (3-1-0) handed the Saints (1-1-1) their first loss of the season by taking a 1-0 edge.

Ryan Robinson continued to impress in the net for Limestone.  Robinson recorded five saves, including one on a penalty kick in the second half to keep the game scoreless.

Lander’s Andrew Courtney broke the deadlock when he scored the eventual game winner in the 74th minute.

Lander out shot Limestone 9-6, and the Saints were hampered by 26 fouls and four yellow cards compared to just 10 fouls and no cards for the Bearcats.

“This was a great team performance,” said Head Coach Eric Alsop.  “Our guys worked hard from the first minute to the last minute.  Unfortunately, we just came up a bit short.  Now we have one more tune-up and we will be ready to open conference play.”

Limestone will return to action on Wednesday, September 7, when they host Warren Wilson College.  That match is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m. on Saints Field.
